Here's a too-small story about a too-big subject. Christopher Plummer plays a German who returns to the French town he occupied as a soldier in World War II. He discovers that he had participated in an atrocity he did not know about until now. He tries to confess his guilt. His American-born daughter, Catherine (Star Trek IV) Hicks, slowly learns to love him. Christopher (Dynasty) Cazenove as an English journalist who just happens to be in town quickly learns to love Hicks too. And the mayor of the town, played by Michael Lonsdale, tries to forget the past and reunite Europe. Souvenir fails by trying to tie up loose ends that simply cannot be tied up.
