My First Love could be a nice episode of The Golden Girls—even a two-parter. As a two-hour movie, it's a little stretched. Bea Arthur plays a widowed driving instructor who still hankers after her high-school sweetheart, Richard {A Year in the Life) Kiley. She tells her girlfriends about him and even giggles—not an easy thing for Bea Arthur to do. Then she writes to Kiley. They meet again. And, of course, they fall in, out of and in love once more. It's a simple little idea for a show, but Arthur, Kiley, Joan Van Ark as Kiley's other girlfriend and Barbara Barrie as Arthur's best buddy lend charm, sophistication and maturity to it.
