When the smoke alarm sounded on United Flight 2032 from San Francisco to Portland, Ore., on May 23, the cause was Jimmy Page, 51. The Led Zeppelin guitarist had sneaked a cigarette in a plane lavatory. As a result he was greeted on the ground by local police, who turned the case over to the Federal Aviation Administration. The rocker faces a fine of up to $1,000....

Robert Lee Hoskins, 37, was wounded in the left arm and pelvis when he was shot by a private guard after he scaled the fence of Madonna's Hollywood Hills home on May 29. Hoskins, who was in a jail hospital in fair condition, was booked on stalking charges. The Material Girl was not at home during the incident.

Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss, 29, was sentenced on May 24 in California state superior court in Los Angeles to three years in jail and a $1,500 fine for pandering. She is free on $200,000 bail pending appeal. She is scheduled to be tried in federal court in L.A. on June 20 for alleged tax evasion and money laundering.

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, 51, and Teresa Heinz, 56, widow of Sen. H. John Heinz of Pennsylvania, who died in a plane crash in 1991, wed on May 26 on the porch of her summer house in Nantucket, Mass. Heinz, who is vice chairwoman of the Environmental Defense Fund and chairwoman of Heinz Philanthropies, was led down the aisle by her three grown sons from her first marriage. Kerry's two grown daughters from his first marriage, which ended in divorce, also took part....

Lisa Kudrow, 31, who stars on NBC's Friends and has a recurring role as the dim waitress on Mad About You, tied the knot with adman Michel Stern, 37, on May 27 in Malibu before 225 guests. It is her first marriage.

Animator Isadore "Friz" Freleng, 89, who helped create such cartoon characters as Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird and who, as head animator at Warner Bros., regularly drew Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, died of natural causes in L.A. on May 26. Freleng won five Oscars for his work, including one in 1964 for Pink Phink, starring the Pink Panther, another of his creations....

Comic actor Severn Darden, 65, who helped found Chicago's famous Second City improvi-sational troupe in 1959, died of heart failure on May 26 in Santa Fe....

Fashion designer Jean Muir, 66, known for her superbly tailored, elegantly simple outfits, died of cancer on May 28 in London. She had been designing under her own name since 1966.

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, 36, and his wife, Brandi, 26, an ex-model, welcomed their third child, son Decker Nilsson (7 lbs., llozs.), on May 23 in Tarzana, Calif. The name Decker came to Brandi in a dream, Nilsson is for the late singer Harry Nilsson, a friend of the Sixxes. Decker joins brother Gunner, 4, and sister Storm, 1.
