Picks and Pans Review: Road Rules

MTV (Mondays, 10p.m. ET)

Think of this as MTV's answer to Charles Kuralt: The Real World meets MTV Sports in a Winnebago. The premise is simple and familiar. Take a group of attractive young people. Send them on a cross-country trek, driving to out-of-the-way locations so they can absorb the local color and take part in activities like dogsled-ding and horseback riding. And remember to have a video crew by the group's side so viewers can see the sparks fly. Too bad none of the five participants have much spark, and nothing unique seems to happen to anybody. Watching this retread has all the excitement of a road trip with your parents to visit Aunt Edna in Dubuque.
