THIRD TIME A CHARM?

Put the lawyers on hold. Michael and Diandra Douglas, who recently separated for the third time in their 18-year marriage, are talking to a mediator about working out their problems, and another reconciliation might be in the works. A rep for the actor claimed the Douglases "never said they were divorcing. They are separated but working on their marriage. What that means, I do not know."...

Elsewhere in the world of on-again, off-again relationships, the one between megabucks funnyman Jim Carrey and his Dumb and Dumber costar, actress Lauren Holly, is so on-again that she recently moved into his new $4 million house in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles....

Initially no one connected with Striptease, the Demi Moore movie that began shooting this fall, thought of casting Burt Reynolds as a sleazy senator who is obsessed with Moore's stripper character. But Reynolds wanted the part so badly that he called Rob Reiner, a partner at Castle Rock Entertainment, which is producing the film, and offered to pay his own way from Los Angeles to Miami, where the film is in preproduction, just for a chance to read for the role. Reiner agreed, and Reynolds' reading won him the part. Said Reynolds: "People forget I started out as an actor, not a star." Asked how much he's being paid for the role, Reynolds, who once starred in box office hits like Smokey and the Bandit, said, "Not as much as I used to get." Reminded that Moore is receiving $12 million, a record for a woman in Hollywood, Reynolds quipped, "Maybe she'll give me a per diem."...

Up periscopes: Barbra Streisand and her close friend, designer Donna Karan, rented a large yacht together and have been spending part of the summer tooling around off the coast of New England....

Costars Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley will be on hand at the Croatian National Film Festival in the city of Pula when mf Schindler's List is screened there July 29. Director Steven Spielberg is not attending. But Hollywood attorney Michael Adler, who counsels Fiennes and two of the film's producers and will be accompanying the actors, says the fact that Schindler's List will be showing only about a hundred miles from war-torn Bosnia "is an irony that will not be lost on any of us."...

Finally, Daryl Hannah, who has played everything from a mermaid to a 50-foot woman, is taking on the role of a guardian angel in cyberspace. Internet users can find Hannah, resplendent with a span of gauzy wings, offering to help guide them through Rocktropolis, a virtual city on the World Wide Web that features, among other things, online chat sessions with musicians, backstage concert reports and the chance to listen to new rock songs.
