Actress Viveca Lindfors, 74, died of complications from rheumatoid arthritis in her native Uppsala, Sweden, on Oct. 25. Lindfors made her U.S. screen debut in 1949's Night Unto Night opposite Ronald Reagan and later married its director, Don Siegel. Her final film, Last Summer in the Hamptons, opens this month....

Orthopedic surgeon Hamilton Holmes, 54, died at his Atlanta home on Oct. 26 while recovering from open-heart surgery. In 1961, Holmes and Charlayne Hunter—now TV journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault—overcame angry resistance, legal and otherwise, to become the first two African-Americans to attend the University of Georgia....

Satirist Terry Southern, 71, who cowrote the screenplays for Dr. Strangelove and Easy Rider, and 1964's bestseller Candy, died of respiratory failure on Oct. 29 in Manhattan.

Veteran singer-actress Shirley Jones, 61, has separated from her second husband, comedian Marty Ingels, 59, after 17 years of marriage.

New father Alec Baldwin, 37, was arrested and taken to a San Fernando Valley police station on Oct. 26 for allegedly punching photographer Alan Zanger, 51, who had tried to snap Baldwin's wife, Kim Basinger, 41, and the couple's newborn daughter, Ireland Eliesse. Baldwin, charged with misdemeanor battery, was released on his own recognizance....

Soul singer James Brown, 62, was arrested on Oct. 31 at his Beech Island, S.C., home and charged with criminal domestic violence after his fourth wife, Adrienne, 45, called 911. Brown, who denies the charges, posted a $940 bond and was released.

Actor Robert De Niro, 52, and his former steady, restaurateur and ex-model Toukie Smith, 41, are the proud parents of twin boys, delivered by a surrogate mother on Oct. 20. The couple, who are no longer romantically involved, will share parenting duties.

Oct. 26, Yolanda Saldívar, 35, was sentenced in Harris County district court in Houston, to life in prison for the murder of Tejano singing star Selena. The founder of Selena's fan club, Saldívar shot the 23-year-old singer in the back on March 31 at a motel in Corpus Christi....
