Tough-talking former New York City cop Eddie Egan, 65, whose exploits as a streetwise narcotics officer inspired the 1971 film The French Connection, died of cancer in Miami on Nov. 4. Egan, nicknamed Popeye, was played in the movie by Gene Hackman, who won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance. Egan, who had a cameo in the movie as Hackman's boss, went on to act in other films....

Actress Rosalind Cash, 56, a founding member in 1967 of New York City's Negro Ensemble Company, died of cancer on Oct. 31 in Los Angeles. For the past two years, Cash had played matriarch Mary Mae Ward on the ABC soap General Hospital. Her 20-odd films include The Omega Man (1971) and this year's Tales from the 'Hood....

British comedic actor Paul Eddington, 68, best known to his American fans for his roles in the PBS imports Good Neighbors and Yes, Minister—later Yes, Prime Minister—died of a rare form of skin cancer at his London home on Nov. 4....

Brawny actor Christopher Stone, 55, died after suffering a heart attack at his home in L.A. on Oct. 29. His career spanned 35 years and included the TV series Spencer's Pilots and The New Lassie. Stone also appeared in several films, including The Howling (1981) and Cujo (1983), both with his wife, actress Dee Wallace Stone, 46 (E.T The Extra-Terrestrial). She survives him with their daughter Gabrielle, 7.

Busted again: Rapper Flavor Flav (born William Drayton), 36, was arrested in New York City on Nov. 7 and charged with illegal possession of crack and a loaded gun. Flavor Flav is a member of the rap group Public Enemy and is currently on parole for a previous gun charge.

Actress Meredith Baxter, 48, wed screenwriter Michael Blodgett (Turner & Hooch), 56, on Oct. 21 in L.A. The family affair included Baxter's five children from her two previous marriages, and Blodgett's three children....

Actress Meg Tilly (Sleep with Me), 35, married United Artists studio president John Calley, 65, in a quiet ceremony on Oct. 14 in L.A. It was a second marriage for both the bride and groom.

Anna Nicole Smith, 27, model-actress and renowned partyer (see page 88) was hospitalized in L.A. on Nov. 6. The cause, said her publicist, was an adverse reaction to prescription medication. He denied that it was an overdose.

Talk show host and animal lover Ricki Lake, 27, and her husband, illustrator Robert Sussman, 29, pleaded guilty Nov. 1 in a Manhattan court to charges of disorderly conduct stemming from the couple's participation in an antifur protest last year. The pair were ordered to pay a $45 fine and spend four days serving meals to AIDS patients. Said Lake: "I still stand by my convictions, but I just will not do anything to get myself arrested again."...

Convicted Canadian sex killer Paul Bernardo, 31, pleaded guilty on Nov. 3 to raping 14 women and to killing his 15-year-old sister-in-law Tammy Homolka, assisted by his wife, Karla, now 25. Bernardo had previously been sentenced by a Toronto court to life in prison for the 1991 and 1992 murders of two teenage girls.

Former Olympic decathlon champ Bruce Jenner, 46, and his wife, Kris, 38, had a daughter, Kendall Nicole, on Nov. 3 in L.A. She is their first child; each has four kids from previous marriages. Kendall (8 lbs., 14 ozs.) is named for Kris's friend Nicole Brown Simpson....

Tough guy actor James Caan, 55, and his wife, Linda, 39, had their first child, James Arthur, on Nov. 6 in L.A. Caan has three kids from previous marriages.
