The sudden death of Olympic gold medal figure skater Sergei Grinkov stunned the world, and the grief of his heartbroken wife and skating partner, Ekaterina Gordeeva (PEOPLE, Dec. 11), left readers deeply moved.
As a model and ex-National Basketball Association cheerleader, I realize my weak efforts at security need to be tightened. Thank you for reminding all readers (not just models or cheerleaders) that we don't live in a dream world, that we need to take every precaution possible whenever pursuing a new and uncharted endeavor.
Thank you for your very poignant article on the tragic loss of Olympic pairs skater Sergei Grinkov. All those who watched Sergei and his wife and partner, Katia Gordeeva, skate together knew that the love they shared was unique and beautiful. Now that Sergei is gone, I am heartbroken, yet I am grateful that I was one of the many fans whose lives were touched by this exceptional man.

When a person wanted to know the true meaning of love, they only needed to take one look at Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov.
DEANNA BREWER, Las Vegas
I've seen them in person several times over the years and never stopped looking at the two of them and thinking to myself, "I wonder what it's like to have a love like that?"

Louis Malle, one of the greatest filmmakers of our time, succumbs to cancer. Sergei Grinkov, an Olympic champion who took our breath away, literally drops dead at his young wife's feet. These two men electrified the world. with their talent, grace and dignity. One would think they deserved this week's cover.
LAURA PAYLOR, Middletown, R.I.
There is no doubt Candice Bergen played an important role in Louis Malle's life, but to discuss him only through the perspective of his "late-blooming love story" is an injustice. Believe it or not, there are people who are interested in the man because of his filmmaking.

A woman with Ivana Trump's money and social status should be able to find someone to make a halfway decent dress to get married in. I mean, doesn't she have any friends who care enough about her to tell her what she looks like? And that veil! I think she is a very classy woman. What happened?

JACK AND KRISHNA WAGNER
Just a few minor corrections to your wonderful story on Jack and Kristina Wagner: Jack's character on General Hospital was held in a Turkish jail, not by Soviet agents. Their son's birthday is Dec. 1—not Dec. 18—and Jack's ballad "All I Need" was not sung to Kristina on the show. Kristina's song was "Lady of My Heart."
