Picks and Pans Review: A Thin Line Between Love & Hate

UPDATED 04/15/1996 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 04/15/1996 at 01:00 AM EDT

Martin Lawrence, Lynn Whitfield

Sitcom star Lawrence executive-produced, directed and cowrote this seemingly endless comedy. It starts out like Eddie Murphy's Boomerang (hip guy strings along a chain of pretty girlfriends) and then—once Whitfield, the richest, most beautiful of the bunch, turns out to be psycho—winds up like Fatal Attraction. Although Lawrence has a great comedic face, with glazed eyes that say "no one home" and a knowing smile that flashes "game for anything," there are only a handful of laughs. No suspense or romance either. A big zero. (R)
