Three years ago, ABC tried out a sitcom, Sibs, starring Marsha Mason, Margaret Colin and Jami Gertz as three frazzled sisters in New "York City. Though funny, the show never caught on. So last year, Heide Perlman, the creator of Sibs, reunited most of the cast (including Colin, Gertz and Dan Castellaneta—perhaps best known for providing Homer's voice on The Simpsons) and refloated the idea. This time it didn't make it past the pilot stage. Understandably so.
Gertz hasn't changed. Then again she never does. She plays even role neurotic, even her guest shot last week as a kidnapper on HBO's comedy Dream On. But in Sibs, Colin, as a recovering coke addict, was TV's most deliciously cynical character in years. She has been completely defanged here. The supporting cast is less than sterling, including Mark Nassar as Colin's gonzo entrepreneur boss and Grayson McCouch as Gertz's catering assistant. The writing, which was Sibs' strong point, has become a good deal more forced the second time around.
