Grammy Award singer Gloria Estefan, 36, and her husband, record producer Kmilio, 41, are expecting a daughter in December. They already have a son, Nayib, 13.

Michael Fay, 19, the Dayton, Ohio, teenager who was caned after pleading guilty in March to vandalizing cars in Singapore, was released from prison there on June 21. Fay, who served nearly three months in jail, returned to the U.S. on June 22 with his father, George, 47, the head of an automotive-supply company.

The eight-month search of Norway's Olympic-gold-medal cross-country skier Vegard Ulvang, 30, for his missing brother, Ketil, 32, came to an end last week when the elder Ulvang's remains were found near his home in Kirkenes, Norway. Ketil, who was a physical therapist for Norway's national ski team, disappeared while jogging last Oct. 13 during a snowstorm.

On June 21, singer George Michael, 31, lost a restraint-of-trade lawsuit against Sony Music. The High Court in London dismissed Michael's claim that his current contract, which requires him to make six more albums with the record company, is unreasonable and unfair....

Sharon Bottoms 24, of Richmond, Va., the openly gay mother who lost custody of her son, Tyler, 2, last year after a judge ruled her conduct "immoral" (PEOPLE, 9/27/93), won it back on June 21 when a Virginia Court of Appeals overturned that decision, noting that "the social science evidence showed that a person's sexual orientation does not strongly correlate with that person's fitness as a parent." Tyler has been living with his grandmother, Kay, 43, who first challenged her daughter's fitness as a parent. His father, Dennis Doustou, 23, whom Bottoms divorced in 1992, had said that his ex-wife should have custody....

On June 21, an aggravated assault charge against Live Crew's Luther Campbell, 33, was dropped after his girlfriend, Tina Barnett, 21, refused to cooperate with prosecutors who were investigating her claim that he threatened her with a gun at their Miami Lakes, Fla., home on May 17.

Shannen Doherty's soon-to-be ex, actor Ashley Hamilton, 20, is recuperating at his Los Angeles home after suffering hand injuries when he fell off his motorcycle on June 10. Hamilton was leaving the Brentwood house of his mother, Alana Stewart, at the time of the accident....

Scat singer Cab Calloway, 86, famed for the 1931 tune "Minnie the Moocher," was hospitalized on June 13 after suffering a stroke at his home in White Plains, N.Y. His rep says Calloway is "resting comfortably."...

Today show lighting technician Joseph Syzmanski Jr. 29, was hospitalized in critical condition on June 22 after suffering an electrical shock when he fell over TV equipment outside the show's new glass-front street-level studio in Manhattan during the program's live broadcast. The incident occurred out of range of cameras, and cohost Bryant Gumbel at first reported on the air that Syzmanski had been electrocuted. Cohost Katie Couric corrected the report moments later.
