In the first of numerous specials commemorating the 25th anniversary of our moon landing (July 20, 1969), Northern Exposure's Barry Corbin, who plays a former astronaut on the series, narrates the story of our race into space from the viewpoint of Deke Slayton, one of the seven original Mercury astronauts.

Despite evocative archival footage, the slow-moving two-parter begins to drift during Wednesday's conclusion. But the flat West Texas twang of Corbin's voice is perfect for this chummy, chatty look at the personalities of the men inside the space suits.
