Sal Inghilleri, 41, a former taxi driver from Bay Shore, N.Y., was convicted on July 5 of sexually molesting Katie Beers, now 11, three years ago. Beers first came to the public's attention in 1992 when she was kidnapped and imprisoned underground for 16 days by family friend John Esposito, 45. Esposito, who will be sentenced July 19, faces 15 years to life in prison. Inghilleri, the husband of Beers's godmother, will be sentenced Aug. 9 and faces a maximum term of 14 years.
John Wayne Bobbitt, 27, his fiancée, Kristina Elliott, 21, and his cousin Todd Biro, 27, were arrested in Las Vegas on July 2 and all were charged with domestic battery. Elliott, a former topless dancer, told police the threesome had been out drinking before a fight broke out and the two men began to beat her. Bobbitt charged that Elliott hit him and bit him, leaving a bite mark on his chest. The trio were released on $200 bond each. This is the second time this year that Bobbitt, whose penis was severed in 1993 by his estranged wife, Lorena, 25, has been arrested for battering Elliott. Last May he was charged with domestic battery after an argument at their Las Vegas home. Those charges are still pending. The couple have postponed their wedding until later this summer....
Flavor Flav, 35, a member of the group Public Enemy, was arrested on July 5 in The Bronx, N.Y., for driving with a suspended license. Flav, whose real name is William Drayton, had flagged down police after a minor traffic accident. A check by officers found the rapper already had 43 suspensions.
Rep. Susan Molinari, 36, of Staten Island, N.Y., wed fellow Republican Rep. Bill Paxon, 40, of Amherst, N.Y., on July 3 in Doylestown, Pa. It's the second marriage for Molinari, the first for Paxon.
Former world heavy weight boxing champ James "Buster" Douglas, 34, emerged from a diabetic coma at a Columbus, Ohio, hospital on July 5. Admitted on Independence Day after his blood-sugar level rose to eight times normal, Douglas remains in serious but stable condition.
Pioneer gospel singer Marion Williams, 66, known for her swooping vocal style, died of vascular complications from diabetes on July 2 at a Philadelphia hospital. Last year, Williams, who had recorded 10 albums during her career, was awarded a so-called genius fellowship worth $374,000 from the MacArthur Foundation. She was the first singer to be so honored.
