Best and Worst of the Year

Howard Stern

Private Parts, his autobiography, may have been a best-seller, but the public parts of radio's loosest cannon are straight from the bargain rack. Magic-shop sunglasses and retro outfits from way south of SoHo make the 6'5" shock jock resemble a roadie for the Monkees. "He looks fabulous for Howard," says Joan Rivers. "He's got his own style, and it works for him." It's not a look that says "future officeholder." Perhaps Stern, 40, who last month abandoned his campaign to become New York's first Libertarian governor, should have taken wife Alison along on the hustings. "When people see him with me," she once said, "it makes him look a little more normal."
