Giving 'Em the Slip Dress
Time was, any well-dressed woman would scurry for cover when told her you-know-what was showing. But lately, from Tinseltown to Texarkana, the slip has come out from under. Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson and Adrienne Vittadini have put their designer stamps on the style, while slipshod versions fill bargain basements. Why have unmentionables suddenly become the last word? For one thing, nothing is sexier than two spaghetti straps and a touch of satin. What's more, slips are high on comfort, low on maintenance. "Models love them for fittings," says designer Todd Oldham, "because they come off easily." Barring a sudden Ice Age, slip dressing may be here to stay.
