BOY, THAT DIDN'T TAKE LONG. THE first wave of cancellations has already arrived. Unfortunately, they got rid of The Martin Short Show before I had a chance to shred, er, carefully weigh its merits. NBC's official explanation is that the sitcom has been removed from the schedule for retooling. Of course when a network announces a show is going on hiatus for revision, it's sort of like parents telling a child that the puppy who has been chewing up the furniture has gone to visit a big happy farm in the country for a few weeks.
