Fox revises its short-lived 1989 sci-fi series as a movie, with much of the original cast intact, including Eric Pierpoint, Gary Graham, Michelle Scarabelli and Terri Treas.
In near-future Los Angeles, the Newcomers, that alien race with the speckled-egg craniums, face trouble at every turn. A human-supremacy group has developed a virus to wipe out the "slags," as bigots disparagingly refer to the hard-working, eager-to-assimilate species. At the same time, a ruthless autocrat (Scott Patterson) from their home planet has journeyed to Earth to return his subjects to slavery.
A bigger budget and better effects make this cop drama-cum-racial parable work better as a movie than as a series. Of course, anyone who saw the 1988 feature with James Caan and Mandy Patinkin, which started the Alien Nation franchise, knew that.
