THERE'S A CHILL IN THE AIR. The days are shorter. The Christmas decorations at the mall have been up for a month now. No doubt about it: Halloween is on the way. And, as always, TV is stuffing pumpkins into prime time.

This week, CBS's Dave's World and Fox's The Simpsons feature Halloween-theme episodes. TBS has an unspooky edition of its National Geographic Explorer series, devoted to the ostensibly supernatural, while Nickelodeon fares better, featuring Charles Dutton as a pirate's ghost in a scary installment of Are You Afraid of the Dark?

All of these pale, however, next to what NBC has in store on Halloween night. It's big, it's bad, it will make you want to sleep with a night-light: it's the biopic Roseanne and Tom: Behind the Scenes. Parental discretion is advised.
