Picks and Pans Review: Demon Knight

Billy Zane, Jada Pinkett, William Sadler, C.C.H. Pounder, Brenda Bakke

Spun off from the TV horror series Tales from the Crypt, this feature is gorier, more obscene, more gratuitously nude (though less sexy) and more pretentious than its TV progenitor. As a menacee, Pinkett is no threat to Jamie Lee Curtis.

Sadler and Zane create some mystery as fugitive and pursuer who get into a fiery car wreck outside a small New Mexico town. But director Ernest Dickerson (best known as Spike Lee's former cinematographer) and his writers quickly cop out, trotting out the usual succession of subcadaverous fiends that ooze green fluid from their glowing green eyes.
