Trisha Yearwood

Trisha Yearwood just gets better and better. Ever since she burst onto the country music scene in 1991 with her No. 1 debut single, "She's in Love with the Boy" (along with the accompanying self-titled, double-platinum album), Yearwood has graced many a fine song with her near-flawless delivery. A former Garth Brooks backup vocalist, she has never sounded more emotionally connected with the lyrics she's warbling than on these 10 cuts. Yearwood excels on ballads, including her coaxing version of Melissa Etheridge's "You Can Sleep While I Drive" and an achingly beautiful remake of Tammy Wynette's 1973 hit "Till I Get It Right." But the crowning moment is "On a Bus to St. Cloud," a melancholy lament of lost love that will leave Yearwood's wistful delivery burning in your memory long after the closing chord. (MCA)
