B+

This new action series follows a recipe that has been used dozens of times on TV, from Charlie's Angels to Baywatch. Assemble a gorgeous young cast and set up an older established actor as their boss. (In this case the authority figure is crinkly-eyed James Brolin.) Extreme takes that formula and superimposes it on the mountain rescue premise of Sly Stallone's Cliffhanger. The result is winning.

All right, the dramatic elements usually land on the slushy side of the mountain, but the show does have high altitude derring-do, rugged, breathtaking scenery, a happening rock and reggae soundtrack and an appealing, fresh-faced cast (Brooke Langton, Cameron Bancroft, Justin Lazard, Tom Wright and Julie Bowen).
