Former Los Angeles Times gossip columnist Joyce Haber, 62, once called "one of the most powerful American women in the media," died of liver and kidney failure in Los Angeles on July 29....

Eugene T. Maleska, 77, editor of the New York Times crossword puzzle since 1977, died Aug. 3 in Daytona Beach, Ha., of. throat cancer. Maleska, who was a well-known puzzle creator as well as editor, came to the Times after 30 years as a high school teacher and administrator....

King Baudouin I of Belgium, 62, who, with 42 years on the throne, was the longest reigning monarch in modern Europe, died July 31 of a heart attack in Spain. His brother, Prince Albert, 59, will succeed him....

Pharmacist Edward J. Breck. 86, who developed the Breck shampoo line for his family's business in 1929 and helped create the Breck Girl ad campaign, died in Watch Hill, R.I., on July 30 of heart failure.

Comic actor Michael Mckean, 45, best known for portraying dim-witted Lenny on Laverne and Shirley (1976-83) and the equal!) dense rock star David St. Hubbins in This Is Spinal Tap (1984), and his wife of 22 years, equestrian Susan Mckean, 41, are splitting. She filed for divorce on July 29 in L.A., citing irreconcilable differences....

Loni Anderson, 46, has filed for divorce from Burt Reynolds. 57, in California, where community property laws could dictate a 50-50 split of the couple-possessions. Reynolds filed last June in Florida.

Actor Wesley Snipes, 30, was arrested Aug. 3 in Hollywood and charged with the misdemeanor of carrying a concealed weapon. Police stopped to aid Snipes, whose motorcycle had overturned, and discovered he had a 9mm pistol under his jacket.
