Billiards ace Willie Mosconi, 80, who once pocketed 526 consecutive balls in exhibition play, died of a heart attack at his home in Haddon Heights, N.J., on Sept. 16. Mosconi won the world pocket billiards championship 15 times between 1940 and 1957 and coached Paul Newman for his role in the 1961 film The Hustler.

After nearly seven years of marriage, comedian and actor Steve Martin, 48, and British actress Victoria Tennant, 42, have decided to separate. The couple met in 1983 while filming All of Me and appeared together in 1991's L.A. Slot Just last January, Martin said in an interview, "We're a couple forever. As our marriage goes on, I like her more and admire her more and more...." Then he added, "People say, 'We have this perfect marriage,' and two weeks later they're divorced."

The large four-bedroom Mill Valley, Calif., home of rock singer Grace Slick, 53, was destroyed by fire Sept. 16. Although welders working nearby took standard precautions, sparks from their torches accidentally ignited dry grass. Damages were estimated at about $700,000.

Knots Landing star Michelle Phillips, 49, was robbed at gunpoint in her car Sept. 19 in a West Hollywood parking lot. The robbers, who have not been apprehended, fled after Phillips gave them her purse....

Hip-hopper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, 21, a singer with the group TLC, was arrested Sept. 12 at Atlanta's Georgia Dome after the Falcons-New Orleans Saints football game. She was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated, criminal trespass and simple battery against a police officer. A few weeks earlier Lopes had pleaded no contest to a charge of obstructing a police officer after a quarrel with Falcons wide receiver and boyfriend Andre Rison, 26.

Cabaret singer Karen Alters, 47, wed Kevin Power, 40, a vice president of the Orion Network Systems, a satellite communications company, on Sept. 19 in Manhattan. It was the second marriage for Akers, who had small roles in The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) and Heartburn (1986) and also performed in Grand Hotel on Broadway.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, 46, and NBC news-woman Maria Shriver, 37, welcomed their first son, 9 lbs. and as yet unnamed, on Sept. 18. The high-powered couple already have two daughters, Katherine, 3½, and Christina, 2....

Talk show host Montel Williams 37, and his wife Grace, 29, announced the birth of their first son, Montel Brian Williams II (7 lbs. 10 oz.), born Sept. 17 in Manhattan. Williams has two daughters from a previous marriage.

Wearing her new crown, Kimberly Clarice Aiken, 18, of Columbia, S.C., walked down the aisle in Atlantic City on Sept. 19 after being chosen the 67th Miss America. An advocate for the homeless, Aiken is postponing her studies at the University of South Carolina for a year. She eventually plans to become a certified public accountant.
