Burt Reynolds stars in and directs this delinquent juvenile fable about the redemptive powers of hugs and baseball. Burt plays a rough in the diamond, an amnesiac vagrant living in the dugout of a Little League baseball field in Florida. He ends up coaching a ragtag bunch of urchins. Turns out he's quite a coach. You see, like so many homeless, dispossessed souls, he's a former star slugger for the Kansas City Athletics.
The botched film is interesting mostly for some unusual credits: country singer Reba McEntire and ex-football star Joe Theismann costar. And the score is by '60s pop star Bobby Goldsboro. As a director, Reynolds seems markedly distanced from the material and the characters—with one exception: He manages to provide himself with lots of lingering movie star close-ups.
