Former Who's the Boss? star Alyssa Milano, 20, became engaged to actor Scott Wolf, 25, on Oct. 24 in Los Angeles. The couple, who met on the set of their upcoming feature film, Double Dragon, have not yet set a wedding date. It will be the first marriage for both.
Actor Kiefer Sutherand, 26, has won an apology and undisclosed libel damages from the Sunday supplement of the News of the World, the British tabloid that in 1989 alleged that Sutherland had married his then wife, Camelia Kath, 39, as a publicity stunt and that he had left her soon thereafter for another woman. Sutherland's attorney told London's High Court that the accusation was fabricated by the woman who claimed to be Sutherland's new lover. The newspaper said its article had been published in good faith....
Rocker Rod Stewart, 48, is being sued for more than $100,000 in back rent and damages by Lorenzo Doumani, a Beverly Hills homeowner. In a lawsuit filed on Nov. 9 in L.A. Superior Court, Doumani alleged the singer never paid the $60,000 he owed for a disputed two-month extension of his one-year lease. Doumani also claimed that Stewart had damaged his wood floors, carpeting, doors, plants, shrubs and grass. Stewart's lawyers had no comment.
Baseball Hall of Famer Bill Dickey, 86, deemed by some critics to have been one of the best all-round catchers in the game's history, died Nov. 12 of natural causes at a nursing home in Little Rock, Ark. A lifetime New York Yankee who hit .313 for his career and had 202 home runs, Dickey delivered as a player, manager and coach from 1928 to 1977. He even appeared as himself in 1942's Pride of the Yankees, the film biography of his road room-mate, Lou Gehrig....
Ukrainian-born actress Anna Sten, in her late 80s, who was touted by Samuel Goldwyn in the 1930s as the next Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich, died of cardiac arrest at her New York City home on Nov. 12. Although Sten starred in several films, including 1935's The Wedding Night with Gary Cooper, she never fulfilled Goldwyn's vision for her. In the end, she was released from her contract and she was remembered thereafter as "Goldwyn's folly."
Supermodel-actress Paulina Porizkova, 28, and her husband, Ric Ocasek, 44, the former lead singer of the rock group the Cars, became first-time parents on Nov. 4 when Jonathan Raven (8 lbs. 3 ozs.) was born in New York City.
