A-

After 57 years an old Georgia pecan farmer (Hume Cronyn) loses his dear wife (Jessica Tandy, who else?). Thai brings his children and grandchildren hovering around rather more than the old man would like.

The family starts gelling really concerned when grandpa reports visits from a while dog that no one else ever sees. Finally Gronyn takes of to revisit a hallowed site from his youth.

The movie's pleasures are on the prosaic side. But it has all the hallmarks of a Hallmark Hall of Fame production: a sentimental story, talented actors and a convincing atmosphere. Cronyn is an unalloyed marvel. Also good is Frank Whaley as the youngest son. Esther Rolle, Christine Baranski and Amy Wright costar.
