In this hankie-soaking movie based on actual events, Jean Smart (Designing Women) stars as a sweet, simpleminded woman. When her saintly husband (Murphy Brown's Robert Pastorelli) becomes incapacitated, she struggles to care for a brood of six young boys, a responsibility for which she is woefully ill-equipped. Even the simplest skills, such as preparing meals, are beyond her.
The emotional impact of this pathos-drenched drama is like that of a filthy panhandler: it's an undeniably tragic prospect but something of an unwelcome intrusion.
