Kirstie Alley plays a woman whose life is tightly circumscribed by caring for her autistic son (Michael Goorjian). She holds the rest of the world at bay with her caustic wit.
It takes a new man in her life (Sam Waterston) to get her to reconsider the cocoon she has woven around herself and her son out of guilt.
This is a stagy property, but thanks to a flat-out fabulous job by Alley, chain-smoking and tossing off zingers like a latter-day Bette Davis, it is quite moving. Phylicia Rashad and Stockard Charming costar.
