In this comic TV movie, the first and mils directing effort by the late John Candy, George Wendt (Cheers) plays a guy trapped in a tacky suburban existence with a shrewish wife (Robin Duke). When Wendt fakes his own kidnapping, predictable complications ensue, and the script begins to tread a lot of stagnant water.

Candy (who has a bit part) threw everything but the kitchen sink into this flimsy bit of whimsy, from the familiar Jeopardy! countdown jingle to line-dancing cops. Hut the neophyte director brought to ibis modest material a chipper absurdity that recalls the tone of Candy's comic training grounds on satire-rich SCTV Network.
