The Hellenic hero is back in the first of five TV films about the mythic muscleman. Kevin Sorbo steps into the sandals previously worn by Steve Reeves, Lou Ferrigno and countless others. Anthony Quinn plays the god Zeus, Here's proud papa.
There's a feminist subtheme to this adventure, in which the strongman takes on a tribe of female warriors whose beautiful and haughty queen (Roma Downey) is a worthy adversary. This diverting!) cheesy mini-epic begins to run out of steam long before it runs out of enthusiasm. But Sorbo makes an interesting Hercules, combining as he does the face of Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly with the hair and body of Fabio and the cocky Voice of James Woods.
