Jonathan Knight, 24, vocalist for NKOTB (formerly New Kids on the Block), was thrown from his horse Shakespeare near his home in Essex, Mass., on March 31. Knight, who suffered a slipped disk and must avoid physical activity for four to six weeks, has dropped out of NKOTB's current 27-city tour....

Legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. 76. revealed that she had both of her legs amputated below the knee last year due to complications from diabetes. Her rep reports that Fitzgerald is now "in really good shape and good spirits.

Singer Prey Sledge, 53, best known for his 1966 hit "When a Man Loves a Woman," pleaded guilty to tax evasion April 7 in Baton Rouge. Sledge failed to report more than $260,000 in income he earned in live performances from 1987 to 1989. He could face up to 15 years in prison and a $750,000 fine....

Atlanta attorney Fredrie Tokars, 40. was found guilty in Birmingham. Ala., on April 8 on eight federal racketeering charges in connection with the murder of his wife and a money-laundering scheme. The prosecution charged that Tokars. a former assistant district attorney, had his wife, Sara, murdered in 1992 to prevent her from disclosing his criminal activities and taking their children away from him (PEOPLE, Aug. 2, 1993). Tokars still faces a stale trial for murder....

Footnote: On April 6, publicist and confessed shoe fetishist Chuck Jones, 52, who was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon and of breaking into the home of former client Maria Maples Trump and making off with dozens of her shoes, was sentenced to between 1½ and 4½ years in prison.

Environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. 40, and Mary Richardson, 34, a designer, are expecting a child in July. Kennedy was recently divorced from Emily Black, 37, with whom he has two children. Robert 3rd, 9, and Kathleen, 5. The couple plan to marry soon....

Former Partridge Family kid actor Danny Bonaduce, now 34 and a radio disc jockey in Chicago, will soon have a fledgling of his own. He and his wife, Gretchen, 28, Bonaduce's manager, are expecting their first child this fall.

Emmy-winning filmmaker Marlon Riggs. 37, whose publicly funded 1989 documentary about gay black men, Tongues Untied, was condemned as pornography by conservative Pat Buchanan during the 1992 presidential primaries, died of AIDS April 4 in Oakland, Calif.

Model Kim Alexis, 34, and her husband, former National Hockey League star Ron Duguay, 36, welcomed their first child, Noah remand (8 lbs. 13 ozs.), on April 9 in Orange County, Calif. Alexis has two sons from her first marriage, and Duguay, who was also married before, has two daughters....

Actor Jndd Hirseh, 59, and his wife, Bonni, 35, a fashion designer, ushered in their first child. Montana Eve (6 lbs. 12 ozs.), on March 29 in New York City. The couple married in 1993. Hirsch has a son from a previous relationship.
