And Now, the Eco-Bash

IT WAS LIKE PLANNING 10 WEDDINGS AT one time," admitted The Young and the Restless' Melody Thomas Scott, who had spent five months organizing the third annual benefit for the L.A.-based Save the Earth Foundation, which funds environmental research. The $100-a-plate do drew 200 ecologically minded fans to L.A.'s Eden-esque Hotel Bel-Air for an evening of soap chat and an auction of memorabilia. Green ribbons were the accessory of choice for headliners including Hunter Tylo (The Bold and the Beautiful), Y&R's Lauralee Bell and Days of Our Lives' Michael Sabatino, who gamely fielded questions during the (free-range?) chicken dinner. By evening's end, $52,000—including $1,000 for a guided tour of the Y&R set—had been raised. Presented with the first annual Save the Earth award, Scott (the foundation's spokeswoman) said, "Don't make me cry tonight. I cry enough at work."
