Here's a half-hour mystery show with a slight (very slight) twist. Sam McMurray (The Tracey Ullman Show) plays a glib police detective who solves a weekly murder, all the while chatting candidly and collegially with the camera. The conceit is that the viewer is supposed to be McMurray's rookie partner, tagging along and picking up pointers as he sifts through the evidence and zeros in on the guilty.
The gimmick isn't enough. What this cheap-looking series needs most are tricky unexpected whodunits. And the supects here are unfortunately all too likely.
