Anna Maria Horsford, Amen alum, plays a widow who owns a struggling black radio station in Detroit. To boost ratings, she hires—sight unseen—Bobby Soul, Minneapolis's hottest deejay. To her chagrin, Bobby (Roger Kabler) turns out to be white! That little melanin misunderstanding is the basis of this hollow sitcom. By the next episode the refrain is obvious: "Play that funky music, white boy."

The supporting cast includes Ron Glas, Vanessa Bell Calloway and Troy Curvey Jr. But the show depends almost entirely on Kabler's comic, manic energy and repertoire of impressions, from Edith Bunker to Redd Foxx. That's not quite enough to relieve the program's phony mood.
