CBS (Tues., Nov. 17, 9 P.M. ET)

This arresting fact-based dramatization examines America's first convicted female serial killer (PEOPLE, Feb. 25, 1991). Jean Smart (Designing Women) stars as Wuornos, a woman who worked as a hooker while hitchhiking around Florida. She killed seven of her customers who she felt maltreated her, shooting her victims as many as nine times.

The film's only weak aspects are flimsy flashbacks to Wuornos's nightmarish childhood and the protracted effort to wrest a confession from her.

Smart is exceptional, drifting from resolve to desolation to resentment. Park Overall, Brion James and Tim Grimm costar.
