CBS has certainly gotten enterprising at turning scandalous true-crime stories from programs like Hard Copy into quickie movies.

In this one, an Oregon teenager (Saved by the Bell's Tiffani-Amber Thiessen) is drowned in a creek by two friends, motivated in part by envy. One of the girls responsible (Margaret Welsh) ends up moving in with the mother (Patty Duke) of the dead girl, insinuating herself as a surrogate daughter.

This is a typically wrenching depiction of gross victimization, garnished with a lot of ersatz emotion. There is, though, a little meat on this bare-bones dramatization, thanks to Welsh's chilling portrait of depravity.
