THE FINAL WEEK OF THE YEAR HAS some escape clauses. ABC's Lincoln (Sat., Dec. 26, 8 EM. ET and Sun., Dec. 27, 7 EM. ET) is a vivid portrait of our 16th President that utilizes Lincoln's own words (read by Jason Robards) and those of his contemporaries (read by Richard Widmark, Glenn Close, Burgess Meredith and others) as well as an extraordinary assemblage of period photos.
Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris (CBS, Sun., Dec. 27, 9 EM. ET) is a charming little fantasy in which Angela Lansbury plays a dowdy London charwoman whose dream is to have a Dior gown created just for her.
Later in the week, you can dance in the New Year. On the night of Dec. 31, MTV Drops the Ball '93 (11 EM. ET) features live performances from Arrested Development, Alice in Chains, Boyz II Men and others. ABC has the usual: Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve (11:30 EM. ET) with musical guests Bell Biv Devoe, TLC, Barry Manilow and others. At the same time, CBS counters with Keith Richards, the B-52's and Bo Diddley on the Hard Rock Cafe New Year's Eve Special. Boy, we've sure come a long way from Guy Lombardo.
