Hollywood legend Joseph Mankiewicz, 83, whose 44-year career included winning back-to-back Oscars for writing and directing A Letter to Three Wives (1949) and All About Eve (1950), died of heart failure Feb. 5 in Mount Kisco, N.Y. For All About Eve he penned Bette Davis's legendary zinger, "Fasten your seat belts—-it's going to be a bumpy night." Mankiewicz also had screenwriter, producer or director credit (and sometimes all three) on some 70 other films, including The Philadelphia Story (1940), Woman of the Year (1942) and Cleopatra (1963), the last being the infamous $40 million bomb that first brought Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton together. Mankiewicz later referred to Cleopatra, on which he worked almost around the clock for two years, as "the toughest three pictures I ever made."...

Noted economist and columnist Eliot Janeway, 80, sometimes called Eliot Doomsday by financial insiders because of his often pessimistic forecasts, died Feb. 8 in New York City after suffering from diabetes and heart problems for several years.

Terminator 3? NBC newswoman Maria Shriver, 37, and her bigger half, movie monolith Arnold Schwarzenegger, 45, are expecting their third child in October....

Syndicated talk show host Mould Williams, 36, and wife Grace, 28, a makeup artist for Montel's show and an actress, expect their first child late next summer.

Actress Nastassja kinski, 33, and music man Quiney Jones, 59, a romantic pair for two years, had their first baby together, a girl named Kenya Julia Miambi Sarah Jones (7 lbs., 14 oz.), on Feb. 9 in L.A. Kinski has two children and Jones six from earlier marriages....

Actor Rod Steiger, 67, and his fourth wife, Paula, 33, had a 6-lb., 7-oz. boy on Feb. 8 in Santa Monica. Baby Michael Winston's name was inspired by Michelangelo and Winston Churchill....

Meredith Vieira, 39, co-anchor of the CBS Morning News, and her husband, TV producer Richard Cohen, 44, welcomed their third baby and first daughter, Lily Max (8 lbs., 9 oz.), on Feb. 7 in New York City.

Soap star Tristan Rogers, 46, who played Scorpio on ABC's General Hospital, was convicted of drunken driving on Feb. 3 in Beverly Hills. Rogers, who will be sentenced in March, faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Oops: The Home show's Gary Collins, 54, and his wife, former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley, also 54, are both nursing broken bones. Mobley broke her elbow two weeks ago after tripping over the couple's dog (aptly named Trouble), and last week Collins broke his right log and hip and cracked two ribs after tumbling off his roof while fixing a leak during an L.A. rainstorm. "It was all that Circus of the Stars training I had," says Collins....

Empty Nest's Park Overall, 35, who plays Nurse LaVerne, needed some health care of her own after breaking her right leg on Jan, 25 while roller-skating (her regular form of exercise) around the TV studio.
