All for Al

AFTER SIX TRIES AND NARY AN OSCAR, AL PACINO LOOKS ready to break his losing streak. For starters, this year he copped two nominations—for Best Actor, in Scent of a Woman, and for Best Supporting Actor, in Glengarry Glen Ross. Another good omen: the American Museum of the Moving Image's Feb. 20 tribute to Pacino at New York City's Waldorf-Astoria hotel. By evening's end even the perennial also-ran was sensing his luck had changed. Citing tabloid reports of his supposedly high sex drive, Pacino said he'd asked a friend in amazement where such stories came from. The friend's answer: "Al, what can I tell you? It's your year, kid."
