David Schoo, 45, and wife Sharon, 36, who left their two small daughters home alone near St. Charles, Ill., over Christmas while they vacationed in Acapulco, pleaded guilty April 19 in Kane County Circuit Court to one misdemeanor count of child neglect and no contest to one count of aggravated battery to a child and one count of possession of marijuana. In return, the state dropped the remaining 61 counts against them. The Schoos were ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and were put on two years' probation. Their daughters, Nicole, 10, and Diana, 4, remain in foster care. If the couple want the girls back, they must follow a lengthy, step-by-step plan supervised by the state before the children can be returned.
