See if this one sounds familiar: An aging, oft-married, glamorous Hollywood star now reduced to TV work checks into a drug and alcohol rehab clinic where she meets and falls in love with a blue-collar schlub half her age. That's right, this is the thinly veiled story of the torrid romance between Angela Lansbury and Bob Vila. Just kidding. I guess we all know the real-life precedent for this Judith Krantz novel.
Raquel Welch plays the star, Jack Scalia her lunch-box loverboy. (Hey, a guy can't play Joey Buttafuoco his whole life.) It's a video bonbon, full of glamorous trappings, name-dropping and, of course, true love triumphant. But you know you're in trouble when Welch is doing by far the best acting in your cast. Chris Connelly, host of MTV's The Big Picture, has a degrading cameo playing a smarmy version of himself.
