Stereo MC's

White rappers often nail the menace and the merchandising but sometimes forget that the beat's got to be worth jumping for. Not so England's Stereo MC's, whose record has more bottom than the models in Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back" video.

Rulers of the U.K. rap scene, an admittedly minuscule pool, the band's three white men and three black women percolate reggae, '70s Afro-Latin R&B and in die dance abandon into an infectious brew. On their second U.S. album, the good-vibe funkateers are finally getting the Top 40 success they deserve. (Gee St./Island)
