Phill (City Slickers) Lewis plays a black music teacher who is laid off by a Philadelphia public school and takes a job at a lily-white boarding academy. It's a trite concept marked by tired humor with a disturbingly racist bent. Gags about watermelon, shoe-shines and lawn jockeys, even though Lewis is the one making them, are in extremely poor taste.

Maggie Han, Joshua Hoffman and Jason Kristofer lend peppy but artificial support. But it's the star who shines, too brightly. Lewis jitters through accents and impressions like Robin Williams on a very off night. His manic charm is turned up so high it's nerve-racking.
