Picks and Pans Review: Keeping Secrets

You can see Suzanne Somers twice this week paired with a Dallas alumnus. She stars in this drab dramatization of her own autobiography, the story of growing up with a venomous, full-blown alcoholic of a father (Ken Kercheval).

In a questionable bit of vanity, Somers, 44, plays herself from college age on as she works into showbiz and out of her own compulsions (perfectionism and debtaholism). The movie costars David Birney as Somers's future husband Alan Hamel, Kim Zimmer as her older sister, Maureen, and Michael Learned as her mother.

This claustrophobic but simple-minded Daddy Dearest treatment-all bruises and no wisdom—isn't nearly as interesting as Call Me Anna, Patty Duke's similar TV movie bare-all last year.
