PBS (Mon., Sept. 30, 9 P.M. ET)

Airing over two nights, this season premiere of The American Experience is an insightful, extensively detailed portrait of Lyndon Johnson as both consummate politician and confounding personality. Directed by David Grubin, the program ranges from LBJ's barnstorming congressional campaigns through Texas in the '30s and '40s to his turbulent years in the White House.
