Picks and Pans Review: New for Children

LIKE THE RECORD that inspired it, this AIDS-benefit book features guest stars, only the stars are children's-book artists. The artists, including Eric Carle, Tomie de Paola, Edward Gorey and Michael Hague, illustrate the lyrics of such tunes as "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Tell Me Why." The art is colorful and sweet (though Bruce Degen's "Give a Little Love" drawing has a burning city tucked in a corner of a frolicking-bears motif), but the book should be used with the tape. Try reading the "Getting to Know You" lyrics with no music. (Disney, $16.95—proceeds go to the Pediatric AIDS Foundation)
