Melanie Griffith wasn't bearded on the set of the forthcoming Close to Eden, filming in Manhattan, but she was just about the only one who wasn't. She plays a cop who infiltrates a Hasidic Jewish community in order to solve a murder.

AIDS activist Elizabeth Glaser came between pop star Sting and Trudie Styler, his longtime companion and mother of three of his kids. The trio celebrated Sting's 40th birthday in L.A. recently at a bash hosted by his label, A&M Records.

Comic Gene Wilder showed off his new wife, Karen Webb, at London's Heathrow airport. Wilder married the hearing specialist last month after meeting her on the set of his 1989 movie, See No Evil, Hear No Evil.

Actor Kevin Kline and his very pregnant wife, Phoebe Cates, jumped ship after a maritime benefit in Manhattan for the Hudson Riverkeeper Fund, an environmental cause. Baby Kline will be their first.

Former Olympic greats Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner tumbled into the Women's Sports Foundation dinner in New York City. Nadia, who's just pals with Conner, is working on a movie based on her life.
