Let us now praise Stephen J. Cannell. This prolific TV writer (The Rockford Files, The A Team, Wise-guy, Stingray, etc.) has an uncanny knack for taking hackneyed ideas and characters and putting just enough spin on them to make them seem brand new. That's the case with this light adventure series starring D.W. Moffett as a former jewel thief hired as a security troubleshooter by the owner of a hotel chain (Tony Lo Bianco). Marcy Walker plays Moffett's immediate supervisor, who came to hotel and restaurant management after a career as a B-movie actress. Characters with history: one of the Cannell trademarks. Another: vivid villains each week.
Moffett is energetic bordering on vainglorious as the fast-talking sharpie. Walker, as his watchdog, hits just the right two-tone note of dignified disapproval and grudging attraction. They trade flirty, antagonistic banter all the livelong day. Leave it to Cannell to reforge Remington Steele.
