The new series in CBS's revamped Friday lineup presents the view from a Las Vegas penthouse. Chiseled David (Falcon Crest) Beecroft runs the Caesars Palace casino and hotel. Despite his patrician Boston background, Beecroft is a hands-on manager, taking a personal interest in everyone from the pit boss to the pool boy. Jon (Miller's Crossing) Polito is his earthy right-hand man, and Catherine Mary Stewart, who got her start on Days of Our Lives, plays the personable hotel hostess who makes sure the high rollers are happy. As on the series Hotel, in each episode special guests check in to generate the handful of story lines.
So far, melodrama seems the order of the plots and dialogue ("A guy comes to Vegas busting his hump 50 weeks a year, he doesn't want to see ballet," Beecroft tells his showroom choreographer). But opulent settings, leggy showgirls and deep pockets of glitz make this sow's ear into a rayon purse.
