Jessica Lange makes her TV-movie debut in this Hallmark Hall of Fame adaptation of the Willa Gather novel. Lange stars as Alexandra Bergson, the daughter of Swedish immigrants, who is determined in the early years of this century to expand her family's Nebraska homestead.
Lange is marvelous in this tale of fortitude, forgiveness and, that vanishing American virtue, passion for place. David Strathairn, Tom Aldredge and Another World's Anne Heche costar.
The film is slow by TV standards, but director of photography Dick Bush has made the prairie landscape look as beautifully haunting as an Andrew Wyeth painting.
